caravan portable tv reception?

on most caravan sites that i visit the TV reception is hopeless,i have a portable flat screen TV with built in free-view, i am thinking of purchasing a portable TVcaravanng kit which contains a 38cm satellite dish a receiver and all the gubbings to go with it, is all this necessary or is there another way round it, also what is the difference between a receiver and a free-view box

  1. I think it depends where you go. I've been to a few places and got a good signal where as at others there's been no signal at all. It all depends on it is set up and whether you change the direction of the arial to the correct place. I've never used a TV caravnning kit, but if you really want TV and usually can't get it then it could be worth trying that
  2. 38cm is a bit small. You'd be better off with a 60cm, it's easier to line up. You could try an multi-element external Freeview terrestrial TV aerial with an amplifier and check the postcode of where you park before you go to see if reception is possibe on the bbc.co.uk/digital page.
  3. depends on where exactly you go, of course ... but i've found that i can generally get reasonable reception just from a laptop and a good quality signal amplifier
