Can I legally live in a car?
So I make $56,000 a year. I will keep my job but I want to save money. Screw this apartment. I will live in my car, I have a Mustang GT 2007 (Picture: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/attachments/introductions/25015d1173902633-2007-black-mustang-gt-cs-copy-of-pict1157.jpg) I will go to the gym to shower (and workout). I will eat from Subway and drink water etc. I will check internet / email at work. I will bring a portable TV with me. I will have a nice warm sleeping bag and pillows.

- your joking. i lived in a car for like 3 months and uhh.... its not fun. you're an idiot.
- yeah, it's a free country, just don't do it in illegal zones wal- marts usually have a place where people can park and live, i see people in cars their all the time
- No idea, but thats awsome.
- whatever floats your boat(or car in this case). Nice car btw!
- sounds good and cheap 2 me lol
- If not they will have to legalize it, we will all be lucky to have a car to live in by 2012.
- My dad had to do that for awhile while he was in college. So I think you can.
- doesnt sound very fun, but i doubt its illegal
- yes, so long as you own the car.
- I am not sure, but i think that is a state by state issue. Probably depends on what part of the country you live in.
- Jim Cramer did it for a while, went to Harvard, made millions. He wasn't born that way. Sure. Legally, depends on the state laws, call the police or check with a lawyer. Maybe research mobile home parks.
- I'll bet you can get a decent used RV for a very reasonable price these days.
- Can you legally live in the car? Yes. But you have to have some where to park it, and most cities don't let you 'live' on commercial lots and whatnot. Best place to stay? A Walmart parking lot. You have access to 24/7 bathrooms, a well lit (safe) parking lot with security, etc. Yes they will let you do this, Sam Walton specifically made Walmart policy so that people could stay overnight (usually in campers) on the property.
- Why would anyone want to live in a car????
- I guess, but just make sure you legally park. ;) I think you will get sick of living in a car after a couple of hours though, lol Where are you going to go to the bathroom? Don't eat any enchiladas before it's time to go to sleep, that's my advice.
- Yes! Have fun............
- What a great life. You'll Make LOADS Of Money! But you wont get a girlfriend :L
- if you own the land the car is parked on then yeah. or if you rent out a plot of land to park the car on. well in my state you car. it may depend on your state. walk into a police station and ask. i wondered if throwing bread out of my car window was littering so i went to a cop and asked. he told me that it really depended on the cop issuing the ticket. yes it was littering but if there were like birds or something nearby then i could have said that i was just feeding them, but if i was throwing whole french loaves then yes it's leaning more towards littering. so yeah ...just ask a cop. but you have to do it in person either in a local station or if you see a cop randomly on the street. if you call 911 they won't know. those are just operators not trained cops, and that line is generally used for emergencies and they'll probably just hang up on you.
- I guess if you want to live in a car and you have everything planned out then why not! It's not hurting any one as long as your car is not parked on another person's land.
- why don't you just sell the car and get a different way to work? be grateful to have the option of housing
- Nice whip! ANd yea you can legally live in a car!
- i dont know im not a cop or a lawyer or anything
- You can, I suggest you get a little camper instead. You will then have a bed, and you can park it at a different Walmart, and or campsite every night.
- I don't see why not. Just park the car somewhere you won't be ticketed. Did you give any thought to sharing apartments with friends?
- Yeah you can legally live in your car as long as you sleep in a rest area. I do however sud jest that you live in an apartment. That would be the best choice. You have protection from the cold, you have security from outlaws- criminals and above all, you have a stove and dont have to waste money on fast food every morning for breakfast lunch and dinner.
- Why don't you just look for a less expensive apartment or look for roommates? It will make it much harder to bring a girl you're dating to "your place". Unless, of course, she's a prostitute. Also, dining out is much more expensive than making food at home. For $5 you can buy a cheap loaf of bread and a couple of packages of lunch meat for several meals.
- rent a small house with a roomate in a non trendy area cut cell phone cable to basic cable make your lunches and dinners instead of eating out
- Yes you can but your address still needs to be on file. get a po box and perhaps a camper with a tow ball that way you have a place for you clothes and personal items. cars get robbed all the time so make sure you are protecting all your assets.
- Well, yes and no. If you can find a place to park without getting ticketed, and have facilities to use so that you will not be defecating in public, those would certainly be helpful. But,your car has no "address" so you will have to get a PO Box. Good luck!
- that's wack, but at least you don't have to pay rent hahaha!
- I don't know if it's legal, but it sounds like a great idea to me. The really big problem is dating. Imagine having to take your girlfriend home to your car. LOL.
- Sure, this is the USA, but you can't get mail at your car. Also the police have a right to keep you moving.
- Your question is very interesting. First of all, why would you want to eat at Subway every day? It is much healthier to have a kitchen, a refrigerator and a stove and a sink to wash dishes. We all need a healthy diet. Second, when you are at work, you are supposed to be working and not using the work computer for entertainment like internet and your private E-Mail. Third, how do you intend to insure your tv in a car, your clothing, and your watch and any jewelry and personnel items? I doubt an insurance company is going to write a policy for you to live in your car.Fourth, what if you become ill with the flu or some bad virus? What if you have a fever and start throwing up in the middle of the night?? Try to be objective and look at the entire picture. Good Luck. Bye.
- Depends on where you park it.
- not fun, yyoure an idiot, but feel free, its legal
