Would you by a battery-operated car?
There was a guy from the Wall Street Journal on television last night (I can't remember his name, I was in the kitchen cooking when I heard him talking) who said this: "If we give the auto industry this money, there will be provisions...One of those provisions will be to create battery-operated 'green' cars, to appease the Democrats and make the government look good (like they're trying to do something about global warming and energy self-sufficency)...It will look good on paper, and it will sound good to the public, but in reality people will not buy these cars in mass quantities, that's not what the auto buying market tells us...Americans like vehicles with power...After the auto makers spend billions of dollars producing these vehicles, they will have a hard time selling them, then they will fail again" That's not word for word, but it was the best I could do. Think about this seriously for a minute...I know you care about the environment and all of that, but would you buy a battery-operated car?...Honestly and truly?...Or is this guy from the Wall Street Journal completely off his rocker? You guys know you can't edit these things after you hit the submit button...I didn't notice the typo until it was too late. And I really don't think very many people would BUY these things...I know I wouldn't.

- I would if I lived in a small town where it was a bit too large to walk, but the vehicle would have sufficient charge to get a lot of errands done in the immediate vicinity I would have another vehicle for longer trips tho
- no way i never will by an american car .
- Those electric cars will cost 60,000.00 each and get 200miles to each charge. I'd buy a Toyota Hybrid,
- I would not by one but I would buy one.
- There's a great film called "who killed the electric car" that talks about the pracicallity of electric cars. http://www.whokilledtheelectriccar.com/ You can also find it on youtube.
- Global Warming is a bunch of crap. It is a scare tactic which so many uninformed nit wits believe. There is no way I would have a battery operated car nor a Hybrid. They are useless. The Hybrids are not as good on gas as normal cars. The Dems can kiss my American A** and go to He**!
- I think about buying a new car...but it's like watches or dvd players or nike tennis shoes...everytime you buy it, you find out a week later you wasted your money, because something better came out... I think we should all have government subsidized German Trabans (Trabi)..Like the East Germans did
- No I would not buy one. The Toyota Prius has a manufacturing carbon footprint that is worse than the military Humvee. It is so bad that the only country that can manufacture the batteries is China because they have no EPA.
- I don't think electric cars are really the long term solution this country is looking for. So I don't see me buying one. You asked us to think about this, and in doing so I was struck by a few more thoughts that relate: I'm in favor of reducing our dependence on foreign fossil fuels. But the alternatives to oil are not yet mature enough to provide the energy requirements of this nation without massive subsidies. And the "greenies" are dead set against exploring and drilling our own supplies. They have the same short sighted view regarding ANY established energy source it seems. Coal, nuclear, natural gas, etc. Where are we going to get the electrical generation capacity to power the recharging of all these electric car batteries? How is this going to effect the power grid when in the dead of summer brownouts are fairly common already? Resources for highway construction and maintenance are funded primarily by taxes on gasoline. Is there going to be a new tax on electricity to replace those lost from lowered gasoline sales? And if so, how does it get split out so you aren't paying the "gas" tax when you're just using the toaster (or whatever household electrical appliance you care to imagine)? Personally, I think hydrogen is the most likely auto power source for the future.
- no they are crap can you imagine a truck trying to work with an electric motor--
- Rayne it is the Dems biggest way to perpetuate the Biggest lie in the History of this country. Starting with the Biggest lie Obama. To this so called battery powered car. Think about this for a minute. The average ghetto rider steals cars, doesn't buy them. So green is not on there mind. The average Car Jacker is Black. While they are pointing a gun at your head demanding you give them your money, and vehicle. Are they going to pause, mid screaming to ask about the' nuances of the battery car compared to the gas version, I don't think so.. Plus the fact if your riding along in your battery mobile and you run out of power, How many damn extension cords do you have to carry in order to charge the piece of crap up with to continue another 20 feet. I'll stick to my Horses,
