Does this make you feel bad for Roger Clemens?

http://www.nypost.com/seven/09232008/news/regionalnews/rockets_sad_stare_130357.htm I mean, really, the writing was overly dramatic. Here's (I think) the "best" part of the article... "Clemens was sitting at home in hurricane-ravaged Texas, in front of a battery-operated television on his living room couch, when the team delivered a final crushing blow to its former star. Clutching wife Debbie's hand on one side and mother-in-law Jan Wild's on the other, Clemens tuned in to his final team's last home game hoping for some recognition for helping win two World Series titles, Wild said. But that Rocket never launched." ---- Was the purpose of that article to make us sympathize with Roger Clemens?

Public Comments

  1. Clemens should feel lucky he even has his wife next to him after he started having an affair with a girl when she was 15. He gets what he deserves.
  2. never in my life will i feel bad for roger
  3. It does make me feel bad for the guy. But if MLB and the Clubs start going soft on players who violate the rules wouldn't that just cause more players to do the same thing and expect good recognition? Its sad but he earned it. Edit: Hey Kim is back! Everybody is coming back for Post-Season ball. King Felix made his return last night also!
  4. Clemens helped the Yankees win ONE, WS.. because every Yankee fan knows, that first year he was here, he was GOD AWFUL!! the Team Carried him, he didnt carry the team that first year. the Second Title he was dominant. but i think the article was intended to make us sympathize with him.. but the Fact of the Matter is, The Yankees took the Low Road and didnt even mention Joe Torre, HOW DO YOU NOT MENTION JOE TORRE!!!?? so Clemens needs to cllimb down off his crucifix because he was not Joe Torre Here. And Whatever he gets now,is well deserved after the way he has behaved.
  5. NOTHING could make me feel sorry for that arrogant piece of garbage.
  6. Not really, no. Clemens is a grown-up (I have no idea if he's an adult) who made his decisions and has to live with them and the consequences they bring. The Yankees, however, are full of beans if they're claiming with a straight face that skipping Clemens was mere oversight. It was deliberate, it was a snub, and even if there was an understandable reason for doing it -- not drawing boos on a night for happier memories -- it still isn't a defensible decision. Consider: Yankees Cy Young Award winners Turley (1958), Ford (1961), Lyle (1977), Guidry (1978), Clemens (2001). I wasn't watching, but I'm certain Ford, Lyle, and Guidry were noted. (Turley, anyone?) It has been widely speculated that Clemens would be in a different place today had he simply plowed through whatever waves the Mitchell Report kicked up. He didn't, but that was his choice. The Yankees could have done similar -- here were go, former star A, former star B, Clemens (boooo!!! hiss!!!! or whatever), former star D... just motored on past him. Oh, the mediots would have found ways to write about it because that's what they do, but it would have quickly subsided into background noise and, for the Yankees, would have been the far less controversial choice. Oh well.
  7. That was probably to make us sympathize. While it is unfortunate that he sat at home in Texas in post-hurricane conditions, I don't blame the Yanks for not recognizing their former star. They have known about his whole scandal with Brian McNamee, which is probably part of why they didn't honor him.
  8. Being a Yankee fan that I am, I was super glad that he wasn't mentioned at all during the closing ceremonies for Yankee Stadium. The recent revelations of his long stading affair with Mandy McCready and other women just solidified the creep status that he has attained. The guy also stooped so low that he told his wife to get injected with HGH before a SI article of he and his wife. I have lost all respect for this once great pitcher and may he be excluded from the hall of fame.
  9. This is such a great question; however, easy to answer: Clemens deserved to at least be mentioned. I was only a fan while in Boston even though I hated his demeanor. I will never forget how arrogant this guy is, even at the face of the steroids scandal. He knows that he is guilty in some way and won't own up to it. He has a habit to turn his back on people (especially his wife). I feel bad for his kids because they have to live with this highly publicized story. I do feel sorry for Torre. He has had nothing bad to say about NY fans or his former players. Why not mentioning his name? Where are the Yankees now? If Torre was there, they would be in the playoffs. The media is not trying to sympathize with him. They are just feeding a story which, on this case, happens to be true. He "made his bed" and now he is lying on it. Lucky for him that he does it next to his wife instead of prison.
  10. Wow, talk about dramatic, haha. I don't feel bad at all. If he wasn't such a piece of shit, he might have been invited back. But since he tried to blame anyone else for his steroid use, then had an affair with a 15 year old, nope I don't feel bad one bit.
  11. First, realize the source. The Post is a populist newspaper that often panders to its readers. (It likes Palin!) Sympathy for Clemens? I'll give him as much as he would give me for whatever troubles I have. At least whatever situation the flood and storm left him, he can rebuild. As for the Yankee snub...Well, it is one classless group disrespecting another. How could they not include him? He won a couple of Series with them, as well as a Cy Young. Did they think no one would notice? Anyone else i might feel bad for, but I have come to loathe the man so much, I could care less. A bigger slight was Torre. A dozen years at the helm, playoffs every time and four World Championships. A better record than Miller Huggins. For those who don't know him, his was the plaque in monument park. Compare that honor to the obvious snub here. They should have had Torre deliver a statement by satellite or tape to an audience that would show their love. That's probably what it was all about. The Yankees wouldn't want a public exhibition showing that the former manager is better liked than the current.
  12. Yes, I do feel terrible for Clemens because there has been nothing but innuendos linking him to HGH. He is innocent until proven guilty. The Yankees needed to support him and they didn't. That was wrong. Without Clemens the Yankees don't win the '99 and 2000 world series.
  13. I'm guessing that the 200 million dollars he made playing a kids game will somehow ease his pain. Sorry but he asked for everything that has happened to him. The biggest blow is yet to come when he is denied entry into Cooperstown. I am more upset that Hank the Yank didn't even mention Joe Torre or Donny "Baseball". That was a total lack of class.
  14. Well, you know me well enough to know I'm a big Red Sox fan like you...I was a huge fan of his when he was with the Red Sox...but, after he left the Red Sox, it seems winning became a win-at-all-cost thing for him...and, he allegedly encouraged his wife to use steroids for a Sports Illustrated cover with him...So, yeah... I've lost a lot of respect for him... There is no question that Clemens boosted the Yankees to a couple of their most recent championships. However, the Yankees undoubtedly didn't want to get into an embarassing situation if Clemens was, indeed, lying about his alleged steroid use during his appearance before Congress with his former trainer... There has been a wide cloud of suspicion over Clemens that he lied to Congress...If that is ever proven, his stats with the Yankees, along with the Yankees' championships with him, become questionable, and widely scrutinized...
  15. no he was a wise ass and is a jerk ..
  16. It's been dog years since I felt any bit of sympathy towards the douchebag. And yes admittingly I despise the Yankees (am a Red Sox fan) but my hate for Roger is such that if and when Fenway Park is no longer our home I wouldn't want him there either. Between the HGH / steroid use, the affair with a MINOR (f.y.i. 15 is not "oh but she is a high school senior who needed a prom date") and his arrogance .. no more. no mas.
  17. Nope, I dont really feel sorry for him. But as a redsox fan, I still wanted Joe Torre to be metioned in the yankee stadium farewell.
  18. i do not think the article was written to make us sympathize with clemens. i was disappointed he did not sign on again with houston, but to answer your question, yes, the article made me feel bad for him.
