How do I fix my portable TV?

My son's portable TV is playing up, when you turn it on try turn the channels over, nothing appears to happen apart from a key symbol on the screen suggesting it's locked. The Remote control was lost ages ago, probably thrown in the bin by mistake and the batteries in it would be flat by now, so I don't think it's anything to do with that. The TV has worked perfectly for ages and it had actually worked the previous day then the mysterious key symbol appeared and I can't get anything on it. Checked the wiring, unplugged it all etc. Going to buy a new one but if I can sort it out then I'll have a go. If you're good with gadgets can you give me some advice before I send it to the TV graveyard!

2. The child lock is stuck on. Unfortunately you need the remote in order to turn it off. You need to hit the f (function) button and then hit the mute button. Sounds like a scuba dive under the bed to find it.

4. don't get a new one, and i'm crap on fixing them, but go to www.freecycle and you'll find loads of things that people in your area are giving away cos they don't want them anymore...and there's loads of tellys.....its cool !
